Lakes: 15 down, 133 to go!

July 15, 2016

Last week I began a four year project funded by the State Wildlife Grant Program through the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation to survey Oklahoma’s public lakes for aquatic invasive plant species. ย My summer research assistant, Kayleigh, and I are starting locally to make sure we have a good protocolย for the surveys in case I … More Lakes: 15 down, 133 to go!

Trail run with friends, followed by a couple loops on the bike, all in freezing fog and a teeny bit of snow. . . #everyrideisepic #ilovetoridemybicycle #getoutandride #werideallweather #winterriding #wymtm #fromwhereiride #cannondaletopstone #girlsgonegravel #morewomenonbikes #trailrunning #halfmarathontraining #hoarfrost #freezingfog
Tiny pollinator plants growing up so fast. Soon they will be ready for our restoration and research projects. The high today was just above freezing, but we are preparing for spring! . . #habitatrestoration #pollinators #pollinatorgarden #conservationwork #milkweed #asclepias #monarchbutterfly #okiesformonarchs #restoringbiodiversity
Sunny and tailwind on my morning ride to the office โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ‘. Great day for Gonzoโ€™s first work commute. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿšฒ. . . #biketowork #bikecommute #everyrideisepic #moreawesome #ilovetoridemybicycle #getoutandride #morewomenonbikes #thesupplelife #cannondaletopstone #bikelife @alsbicyclesnorman
Good times at the Oklahoma Gravel Growler in Shawnee. Did the long route which ended up on my gps as 83 miles ๐Ÿ˜ณ. Great event! Well marked, good swag (ice scraper and neck warmer!), cool old bridges, and full meal at end. Looking forward to next year! . . #moreawesome #everyrideisepic @alsbicyclesnorman @spokelahoma @visitshawnee #morewomenonbikes #girlsgonegravel @gravelguru #wymtm #fromwhereiride #ilovetoridemybicycle #bikelife #getoutandride
First time getting stopped by the train on the Boxcar ride. My biggest concern was we would get back after the A riders and there would be a long line for lattes. ๐Ÿ˜‰. Iโ€™m finally getting used to this winter riding. Getting up at dawn ๐ŸŒ… and riding during freezing temps ๐Ÿฅถ is just a typical Sunday ๐Ÿ˜. . . #morewomenonbikes #fromwhereiride #wymtm #bikelife #bikelove #ilovetoridemybicycle #winterriding #werideallweather @theboxcarok #teamalsbicycles
This 45 year old did a new thing today! Rode in a mountain bike race! ๐Ÿšต๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Took the drop bar, no suspension adventure bike out for 4+ hours of single track! All those hard core mountain bike guys were impressed ๐Ÿ˜. Had a great time and am now a bit sore and exhausted. Started out frozen, which was perfect, and got sloppy by the second hour. My first mud experience and happy to say I stayed upright during those slippery turns. Thanks to @teamwarmup for putting on a fun event. Thanks to @alsbicyclesnorman and especially @bikegeek420 for pre-, intra-, and post-race advice. ๐Ÿšฒ๐Ÿ’™ Thanks to @mermaidladykatie for holding my bike while I snacked and reapplied #chamoisbuttr ๐Ÿ˜ณ.
